Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has reiterated the urgent need to provide basic necessities to the country’s displaced population, following the devastating Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Mikati emphasized that Lebanon is facing one of the most dangerous periods in its history, with nearly one million Lebanese displaced by the ongoing conflict.
During a meeting with United Nations agencies and representatives of donor countries, Mikati called for increased collaboration with UN organizations and donor nations to ensure essential aid reaches displaced citizens.
The meeting was part of the Lebanese government’s response plan to address the crisis caused by the Israeli aggression.
The session was attended by key figures, including the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, and the Acting Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Beirut, Christine Knudsen, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
Mikati expressed deep gratitude for the continuous support from the United Nations, as well as from Arab and international allies.
He urgently appealed for further assistance to bolster ongoing efforts aimed at delivering basic humanitarian aid to displaced civilians.
The Lebanese prime minister highlighted that his government, in cooperation with UN institutions, has developed a clear and effective framework to ensure the swift, transparent, and efficient delivery of aid. This plan is designed to address the immediate needs of the displaced population, ensuring that essential services and relief efforts reach those most affected by the conflict.
