Germany deported an Iraqi young man believed to have planned a “terrorist” attack during the Christmas season.
This action was announced by the Ministry of Interior in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany.
The deportation carried out on Friday evening, was also accompanied by a ban on re-entry and residence for an unspecified period for the 20-year-old Iraqi.
The young man was apprehended in the city of Halle, Lower Saxony, last month after the local police received information suggesting that he was planning a serious act of violence.
It is suspected that the Iraqi intended to target visitors at one of the Christmas markets.
The Iraqi individual had been residing in Saxony-Anhalt and was employed in Lower Saxony.
The German authorities have taken these actions as part of their efforts to ensure security during the festive season and prevent potential threats.
Christmas markets in Germany are popular attractions during the holiday season, drawing visitors from both within the country and abroad.
Ensuring the safety of such events has been a top priority for law enforcement agencies, and this case highlights their commitment to maintaining security during this time of celebration.
