In a recent development, the Jordanian military has successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) laden with explosive materials.
The drone was inbound from Syrian territory, according to reports from the Jordanian News Agency (PETRA).
The incident took place in the Eastern Military Zone as confirmed by an official statement from the agency.
The military authorities reported that on Wednesday morning, the Eastern Military Zone detected and thwarted an attempt by a UAV carrying explosive materials, specifically of the TNT variety, originating from Syrian soil.
A high-ranking military source within the Jordanian Armed Forces indicated that Border Guard units, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department and military security agencies, monitored an unauthorized attempt by an unmanned drone to cross the Jordanian border from Syria. The drone was promptly neutralized within Jordanian territory.
The source emphasized that the UAV was managed by a team from the Royal Engineering Corps.
It was further emphasized that the Jordanian Armed Forces remain resolute in responding with strength and determination to any threats along their borders, as well as any efforts intended to undermine national security and disturb the peace of its citizens.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on February 25, where the Jordanian military successfully intercepted a drone originating from Syria carrying hand grenades and a rifle.
The Jordanian military has been consistent in its efforts to thwart weapon and drug smuggling operations, particularly the smuggling of Captagon pills from Syria into the kingdom.
The shared border between Jordan and Syria spans nearly 375 kilometers.
