Sevilla FC announced today, Tuesday, that Croatian player Ivan Rakitic is moving to the Saudi team Al-Shabab during the current winter transfer period.
Sevilla FC stated in a statement on their official X platform account: “Sevilla FC announces the departure of Ivan Rakitic from the team. The Croatian player played 232 matches in the team’s jersey, scoring 51 goals and providing 63 assists. Thank you, Rakitic.”
Sevilla’s statement added, “Ivan will join the ranks of Al-Shabab (Al-Leith) in the Saudi League.”
Recent media reports revealed that Al-Shabab Saudi Club has finalized the deal to sign Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic from Spanish Sevilla during the current winter transfer period.
Famed journalist and player transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, wrote on his official X platform account: “Ivan Rakitic has completed his medical as a new player for Al-Shabab, and will leave Sevilla to move to the Saudi League.”
He added that “the contract will be valid until June 2025, that is, for a year and a half. The Croatian midfielder joins the Saudi Professional League.”
Rakitic participated in 323 matches in the Sevilla jersey in all competitions, during which he scored 51 goals and provided 63 assists.
Rakitić has been a key player for Croatia, participating in multiple UEFA Euros and FIFA World Cups, including the memorable run to the 2018 World Cup final. With over 100 caps, he is among the most capped players in Croatian football history.
Throughout his career, Rakitić has been celebrated for his contributions to football, earning numerous accolades and trophies, including a Champions League title, multiple Spanish Championships and Cups, a German Cup, a Swiss Cup, FIFA Club World Cups, Europa League, UEFA Super Cups, and recognition as Croatia’s Footballer of the Year.
