Israeli War Council member Benny Gantz is set to visit Washington on Sunday to meet with American officials without Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approval, according to the “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper.

The newspaper cited sources close to Netanyahu who stated that Gantz’s visit to Washington contradicts government regulations requiring the prime minister’s approval for any minister’s travel.

It is expected that Gantz will head to London after his visit to Washington, the newspaper reported.

Earlier this week, U.S. President Joe Biden strongly criticized the Israeli government, specifically mentioning Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Biden warned that if Israel continues on its current path with “such an extremist government, it may lose international legitimacy.”
