The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported the killing of two individuals aligned with Syrian forces due to Israeli airstrikes targeting pro-Tehran militia locations around Damascus the previous Monday evening. In parallel, the official Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported a Syrian soldier was wounded in the assault.
According to the Observatory, “two Syrian soldiers were killed in an Israeli strike targeting military locations southwest and southeast of the capital, Damascus.”
The Observatory continued, “Missiles targeted locations several kilometers from Damascus International Airport and in the vicinity of Al-Kiswah area, leading to the destruction of a site in Al-Kiswah and another location housing vehicles near the airport.”
The Observatory had earlier pointed out that “Israeli missiles targeted at least three locations of the regime forces, which include warehouses and military sites for the Lebanese Hezbollah forces and Iranian militias.” The Observatory specified that “two of them are around Al-Kiswah in the Damascus countryside,” while the third site is “in the southern area of the Syrian capital.”
SANA, quoting a military source, reported that “around 23:05 on the evening of 21/8/2023, Israel executed an aggression with guided missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting points in the vicinity of Damascus city. The attack resulted in a soldier being injured and some material losses.”
SANA had previously mentioned that Syrian air defenses “confronted hostile targets in the vicinity of Damascus,” without providing further details.
In mid-August, intense explosions occurred in missile depots belonging to pro-Iran groups west of the capital, Damascus, causing material damage, as per the Observatory.
A week prior to that, four Syrian soldiers and two pro-Iran fighters were killed due to Israeli raids targeting military locations and weapons depots around Damascus, especially Al-Kiswah.
