The Israeli army has issued evacuation orders for Palestinians in large areas of northern Gaza, preparing for potential attacks in response to rockets fired towards Israel.
Avichay Adraee, the army spokesperson, announced the evacuation on X, targeting residents in al-Manshiyya, Sheikh Zayed, and Beit Lahiya neighborhoods. The Israeli army stated that the orders were issued because Palestinian armed groups had been launching rockets against Israel.
The new evacuation orders follow a series of airstrikes and retaliatory rocket attacks in recent weeks, as tensions between Israel and Palestinian groups, particularly Hamas, continue to escalate. The Israeli army has pointed to the neighborhoods in question as being key locations from which rockets have been fired into Israel.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with thousands of residents in northern Gaza already displaced by previous military strikes. Humanitarian organizations have voiced concerns about the increasing number of civilian casualties and the lack of safe zones for those fleeing the violence. Gaza’s health ministry has repeatedly warned of the growing toll on civilians, as infrastructure, including hospitals and shelters, is overwhelmed by the intensity of the ongoing conflict.
