Israel views the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL, as crucial in maintaining stability after a potential conflict with Hezbollah, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday.
Katz emphasized the importance of UNIFIL’s work, stating, “The State of Israel places great importance on the activities of UNIFIL and has no intention of harming the organization or its personnel.”
Tensions have risen as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged the international peacekeeping force to withdraw from its posts in southern Lebanon to avoid being caught in the crossfire between Israel and Hezbollah.
This stance has angered some of Israel’s European allies, who value UNIFIL’s presence in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
