The Israeli Defense Forces announced the assassination of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike that targeted the southern suburb of Beirut. In a statement released on Saturday via the platform X, IDF spokesperson Avichai Adraee confirmed that the Israeli military had eliminated Nasrallah, who was described as a terrorist organization leader and one of its founders. The airstrike also reportedly killed Ali Karki, a commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, along with several other leaders of the group.
According to Adraee, the airstrike was conducted based on precise intelligence from the security agency targeting Hezbollah’s central command, which was located underground beneath a residential building in the southern suburb. The operation occurred while Hezbollah’s leadership was coordinating terrorist activities against Israeli citizens within the command center.
Adraee emphasized that during Nasrallah’s 32-year leadership of Hezbollah, he was responsible for the deaths of numerous Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers, planning and executing thousands of terrorist operations against Israel and globally. He characterized Nasrallah as the principal decision-maker within the organization, holding the ultimate authority over both strategic and tactical decisions.
Additionally, the IDF highlighted that since joining the conflict against Israel on October 8, Hezbollah has consistently attacked Israeli civilians and escalated tensions in the region. Earlier, the Israeli military had reported targeting Hezbollah’s central command located beneath residential buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs. However, Hezbollah’s media relations official stated that Nasrallah was unharmed and was not present at the targeted site
