On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson for the Arab world clarified that Israel’s military operations in Rafah, located near the Egyptian border in southern Gaza, comply with the terms of the Egypt-Israel peace treaty.
This statement was issued in response to concerns raised after the Israeli army moved into the Palestinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing, as reported by Al-Qahera News on Tuesday.
According to the spokesperson, Ofir Gendelman, although Israel recognizes the sensitivity of its actions near the Egyptian borders, these operations aim to combat Hamas and enhance security and stability in the area.
Gendelman assured in a video on his official X page that these actions do not breach the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt.
In contrast, an Egyptian source highlighted in April that any Israeli military presence in the designated border area between Egypt and Israel, referred to as area (D), would constitute a violation of the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
The source further stated that Egypt would respond decisively to any breaches of the treaty and its security annexes.
