An armed Iraqi militia announced on Wednesday that it had targeted two Israeli military sites with drones, affirming its escalation of operations against Israel.
The group calling itself the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” stated in a release, “The Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the Israeli military site of Svir in our occupied territories with drones early Wednesday morning.”
In a previous statement, the same group indicated that its fighters had targeted the Israeli Auda Air Base with drones.
The militia emphasized in its statements its ongoing operations against Israel in response to the “massacres” committed by Israel against Palestinians.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq gained prominence following the events of October 7 last year, after the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas.
It claimed responsibility for most of the attacks on US forces following the outbreak of the Gaza war, citing Washington’s support for Israel.
Among the prominent factions under the group’s umbrella are the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades and the Al-Nujaba Movement.
According to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, available evidence suggests that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps plays a role in coordinating operations for the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq.”
