Iraq announced the dispatch of thousands of tons of medical and food aid, including ambulances, to Gaza and Lebanon, according to a statement by the spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, on Thursday evening.
The aid, part of a humanitarian mission overseen by Iraq’s Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, is aimed at assisting the Lebanese people amidst the ongoing crisis.
A special committee, headed by advisor Zaidan Al-Atwani, coordinated the effort alongside Lebanese authorities and security agencies.
Hundreds of tons of humanitarian aid and medical supplies have been sent to Lebanese hospitals, with five planes delivering life-saving medical equipment. Ambulances were also dispatched to support healthcare infrastructure in Lebanon.
In addition, a convoy of vehicles carrying essential relief items such as tents and supplies to alleviate the suffering of displaced individuals was sent.
Large amounts of humanitarian aid were also delivered to the people of Gaza, who are facing ongoing conflict and devastation.
The Iraqi Red Crescent, in collaboration with Lebanese authorities and the Lebanese Red Cross, managed the logistics of the aid deliveries to both countries.
Lebanon has been experiencing increased Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling over the past week, resulting in the deaths of 1,974 people, including 127 children and 261 women, and injuring 9,384 others, according to Lebanon’s acting Health Minister Firas Abiad.
