As Washington and Tehran negotiate over Iran’s nuclear file, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a new challenge to the West.
On Sunday, Khamenei stated that “the West will not be able to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons if it wishes to continue its nuclear weapons program.”
Official media outlets quoted Khamenei saying, “The talk about Tehran’s nuclear weapons is a lie, and they (the West) know it. We don’t want to manufacture nuclear weapons because of our religious beliefs, otherwise, they would not be able to hinder it.”
Khamenei’s comments came during his visit to the “Nuclear Industry Achievements” exhibition held in the capital, Tehran.
He also believed that “it is possible to reach an agreement with the West regarding Tehran’s nuclear activities if the country’s nuclear infrastructure remains untouched.”
He added, “There is no harm in agreeing (with the West), but the infrastructure of our nuclear activities should not be tampered with.” He continued that Tehran must continue working with the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations under a framework of guarantees.
