Hezbollah launched a missile strike on an Israeli military base near Safed on Sunday, escalating tensions in the region.
The attack occurred just hours after Israeli airstrikes targeted a Hezbollah intelligence facility and an underground weapons production site in Beirut.
According to Hezbollah, the missile strike hit the Filon military base, located east of Safed. Israel has not confirmed the attack.
Earlier, Israeli forces had carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a known stronghold of the group, hitting a residential building close to key civilian infrastructure.
In response to the escalating situation, Israeli authorities issued evacuation orders to residents in parts of southern Beirut, warning them to move away from Hezbollah-controlled buildings that could be targeted in further strikes.
The airstrikes mark a continuation of Israeli military operations against Hezbollah, which have intensified over recent months.
Earlier this week, Israeli forces had scaled back their attacks, but over the weekend, the strikes resumed, focusing on buildings in areas such as Harat Hreik, Burj al-Barajneh, and Choueifat.
These events follow accusations by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who alleged that Hezbollah attempted to assassinate him in a drone attack on his residence.
Although Hezbollah has not officially claimed responsibility, Iranian sources have indicated that the group was behind the attack.
Netanyahu has vowed to respond to these provocations, further escalating tensions between Israel and Iranian-backed factions, including Hezbollah.
The growing conflict raises concerns of a broader military confrontation in the region, as Israel continues its campaign against both Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israel has also pledged to retaliate for any Iranian missile attacks, signaling the potential for further escalation.
Since Israel intensified its operations in Lebanon in late September, the airstrikes have concentrated on Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut’s southern suburbs and across southern and eastern Lebanon. Israeli forces have also conducted limited ground incursions across the Lebanese border.
