The Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Sunday that the death toll in Gaza has risen to 35,034 since Israel launched its offensive last October, following a cross-border attack by Hamas that killed approximately 1,200 people. Additionally, the ongoing conflict has resulted in at least 78,755 injuries, according to the latest figures from the ministry.
Over the past 24 hours, Israeli attacks have resulted in 63 deaths and 114 injuries. The ministry also noted that many individuals remain trapped under debris or stranded, as rescue teams are hindered in their efforts to reach them.
The situation in Gaza has grown increasingly dire, with significant destruction across the region and a severe blockade impeding the access to food, clean water, and medical supplies. This blockade is particularly acute in northern Gaza, pushing the population towards starvation.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has taken up allegations of genocide, with a preliminary ruling in January suggesting it is plausible that such acts are occurring in Gaza. The court has ordered Israel to cease these acts and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population.
Furthermore, South Africa has recently appealed to the ICJ, requesting that Israel withdraw from Rafah, a southern city in Gaza where over 1.5 million displaced individuals are currently sheltered, as part of urgent measures to address the humanitarian crisis.
