A high-ranking official in the “Fatah” movement in the Ain al-Hilweh camp (east of Sidon city in southern Lebanon) for Palestinian refugees, survived an assassination attempt today (Sunday). Security sources reported to “Middle East” that the brigadier in the “Fatah” movement, Abu Ashraf Al-Armoushi, was wounded after being targeted in an armed ambush along with several of his companions in the Bustan district in Ain al-Hilweh camp.
The camp had experienced heightened security tensions last night (Saturday), accompanied by the dense deployment of armed forces between the Safsaf and Burksat areas. This followed a shooting incident carried out by an individual known as “the Somali” on an Islamic activist at the vegetable market, in the center of the camp, resulting in injury to his leg, according to the National News Agency. The operation was followed by a barrage of medium machine guns, hand grenades, and the explosion of rocket shells, during which a number of casualties were recorded, including two young girls who were transported to the Humanitarian Call Hospital in the camp for treatment. The tense atmosphere was accompanied by the displacement of several families towards the neighboring Villas area, along with intensive communications to halt the fire and restore normalcy.
According to the agency, the camp regained its calm after the security tension, which resulted in several casualties, including two young girls, on Saturday/Sunday night
