The Anadolu News Agency reported on the X platform last Sunday that Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, extended an invitation to Elon Musk, Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer, to establish a manufacturing plant in Turkey. The news underscores the nation’s eagerness to embrace the green revolution and align with global technological magnates.

This proposition was made during a meeting held at the Turkish House, a skyscraper situated near the United Nations headquarters in New York. It showcases Erdogan’s ambition of tapping into the burgeoning electric vehicle market and possibly providing a boost to Turkey’s automotive industry and economy.

Interestingly, Elon Musk is expected to convene with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in California this Monday. As per Musk’s remarks on the X platform, their discussions are slated to revolve around artificial intelligence technology.

Currently in the U.S for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Erdogan’s initiative may mark a significant stride in Turkey’s bid for technological advancement. However, there has been no official statement from Tesla or the Turkish embassy in Washington in response to Erdogan’s proposal.

In August, Tesla had expressed its interest in setting up a factory in India geared towards producing cost-effective electric vehicles. Presently, Tesla boasts a portfolio of six manufacturing units globally. Earlier in May, Musk hinted that the company might likely finalize a location for a new plant by the end of this year.
