Parts of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv were left without power today, Wednesday, after power lines were damaged due to a Russian missile attack, announced the mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

“As a result of an enemy attack, two high-voltage lines were damaged by missile fragments in the capital. Some consumers on the left bank are currently without electricity,” Klitschko wrote on social media.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv and other cities during the peak hours this morning, where several explosions were heard in the capital as air defense systems intercepted the attack, Reuters reported.

Witnesses reported to Reuters that loud explosions were heard in Kyiv around 5 AM GMT.

Sirens across Ukraine began wailing at 4 AM GMT with the Ukrainian Air Defense warning on Telegram of the risk of Russian missile attacks.

Oleh Synyehubov, the governor of Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, said that Russian missiles hit non-residential infrastructure in the city of Kharkiv, the administrative center of the region.
