Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, emphasized on Sunday that Egypt had gone through a tough period of chaos and instability from 2011 to 2014, which threatened the very existence of the state and the capabilities of its people.
In his speech marking the 71st anniversary of the July revolution, President Sisi said, “The revolution of July 23 established the first Republic 70 years ago.” He pointed out that the foundations and values of the new republic are based on the priority of preserving and protecting the nation amidst a global and regional reality that is becoming increasingly complex and turbulent. He attributed the increase in complexity and turbulence to the changing nature of threats, many of which are targeted exclusively internally.
He further stated, “The new republic is also the product of an unprecedented period of difficulties and challenges in Egypt’s history,” emphasizing that social and economic development and modernization have become necessities, not luxuries.
Drawing attention to the demographic and economic realities, Sisi stated, “We are required to launch at high and consecutive growth rates, which requires a huge amount of work and struggle.” He clarified that “All serious voices are heard for the benefit of the nation and contribute to building the future.”
Earlier in the day, the Russian Embassy in Cairo released a statement congratulating Egyptians on the occasion of the July 23 revolution, wishing them continued health and happiness. “We are convinced that Egypt will achieve great success in multiplying the achievements of the era of Gamal Abdel Nasser, and we are witnessing positive changes happening in the country every day,” the statement read.
The embassy expressed hopes for the continued strengthening of their bilateral relations, particularly as this year marks the 80th anniversary of Russian-Egyptian relations. The revolution, it added, didn’t just mark the beginning of their friendship but also paved the way for Egypt’s true independence.
