Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with a bipartisan delegation from the US House of Representatives in Cairo on Saturday to discuss his vision for regional peace and the prevention of a broader conflict.
During the meeting, El-Sisi emphasized the urgent need to end the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the importance of a ceasefire and the exchange of captives and prisoners. He also highlighted the critical need for swift and substantial humanitarian aid to alleviate the crisis facing civilians in Gaza.
The Egyptian president outlined Egypt’s role as a mediator in the Gaza conflict, alongside efforts from Qatar and the US. He stressed that achieving peace requires all parties to demonstrate political will and called on the international community to apply more pressure to make tangible progress toward stability and security.
El-Sisi also underscored the importance of the two-state solution as a key to defusing regional tensions and establishing lasting peace.
The US congressional delegation, which included members from both Democratic and Republican parties, expressed their support for Egypt’s peace efforts and affirmed their commitment to ongoing coordination and consultation on matters critical to regional and global peace and security.
