An official Egyptian source has denied what was claimed by media reports regarding Egyptian-Israeli cooperation regarding the Salah al-Din-Philadelphia Axis.
The source emphasized that such reports are entirely baseless.
Media reports had alleged that Israel had requested the installation of sensing devices along the Philadelphia Axis, known as the Salah al-Din Corridor, to disrupt communication between Gaza and the world.
The Wall Street Journal had reported that Israel was negotiating with Egypt to enhance surveillance along the Salah al-Din Axis under the pretext of preventing Hamas from constructing additional tunnels.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously stressed the necessity of Israel’s control over the Philadelphia Axis between Gaza and Egypt, stating that it should be under Israeli control.
In response, the Palestine Liberation Organization stated that Netanyahu was attempting to impose a new reality by gaining control of the Philadelphia Axis. They affirmed that his statements were clear evidence of “Israel’s decision to fully return to Gaza” and the destruction of agreements with Egypt.
Hussein al-Sheikh, the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, stated in a post on the “X” platform, “As we mentioned before, this means ending all agreements with the Palestine Liberation Organization, requiring a unified Palestinian and Arab decision to confront the repercussions of this aggressive war and Netanyahu’s attempts to impose new facts.”
Previously, Egyptian military expert Major General Dr. Pilot Hisham al-Halaby, a consultant at the Military Academy for Advanced Studies and Strategy, stated to “Arabiya.net” that Netanyahu’s statements regarding the Philadelphia Axis were for domestic consumption and an attempt to extricate himself from the dilemma he had created. Additionally, he emphasized that Netanyahu could not implement such measures legally.
