Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that his country has been exerting efforts to stop what is happening in Gaza.

“We seek to have a ceasefire and the entry of aid to alleviate the burden on our brothers and families in Gaza,” the president said.

During his speech on Sunday at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital, El-Sisi called for an urgent solution to end the ongoing war in Gaza.

He added: “Since 2020, the circumstances and crises have been difficult, and we hope that the great crisis that we are experiencing now in the region will end.”

Last week, El-Sisi received a US delegation that included Senators Christopher Van Hollen and Jeffrey Merkley, both members of the US Senate representing the Democratic Party.

The meeting, held with the presence of Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, marks a continuation of ongoing consultations between Egypt and the United States at various levels.

The US side was keen to understand President El-Sisi’s perspective on the general context of the current situation.

The President emphasized the need for a ceasefire, the exchange of detainees and prisoners, the implementation of humanitarian aid, and relief efforts for civilians who have been displaced.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has confirmed that nearly 90% of Gaza’s population has experienced forced displacement and lacks necessities, according to Arab World News Agency.

UNRWA called for an immediate ceasefire to provide urgent assistance to Gaza and to end ongoing forced displacement.

The international organization warned that there is no safe place in Gaza, with the specter of famine looming over the region.
