Renewed acts of violence have erupted in the streets of the UK, resulting in property damage and injuries to several police officers as they attempted to quell disturbances ongoing for four days following the tragic killing of three young girls in Northwest England last week.
These protests mark the UK’s widest-scale unrest in 13 years.
Riots involving hundreds of anti-immigration protestors broke out in several towns and cities over the past few days, fueled by the rapid spread of false information online.
The misinformation alleged that a Muslim immigrant was suspected of a knife attack on children during a dance party in Southport on Monday.
Police have identified the suspect as 17-year-old Axel Rodakopana, born in Cardiff, Wales.
Despite this, anti-immigration and anti-Muslim protests continued and escalated into violent riots, with Sunderland in Northeast England being the latest scene of such unrest on Friday evening.
Liverpool police reported on Saturday that several of their officers were injured while attempting to manage “a serious disturbance” in the city centre.
Additionally, violent protests also broke out in Bristol, Hull, and Belfast across Britain, where clashes ensued, and anti-immigration and anti-racism protestors exchanged bricks and bottles.
Many security personnel were injured while trying to prevent clashes between hundreds of protestors from both sides.
Police also reported that at least two stores in Liverpool were vandalized and looted during the unrest.
