Saudi Arabia has emphasised the urgent need for reforms within the UN system to effectively address threats to international peace, security, and development pathways.
This call for action was articulated during Saudi Arabia’s address at the Future Summit, part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, delivered by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Foreign Minister, on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Saudi Foreign Minister highlighted the visible necessity of radical reforms within international institutions, particularly pointing out their failure to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine and their inability to hold Israeli authorities accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, he noted Saudi Arabia’s active participation in drafting the “Charter of the Future,” believing it to represent an opportunity to change our reality for the better.
This involvement underscores the importance of evolving multilateral efforts to become more effective and impactful in addressing current and future challenges, thereby enhancing peace, security, and sustainable development for future generations.
Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a major agreement known as the “Charter of the Future,” calling for action and reform to set the world on a better path.
The charter, unveiled at the Future Summit in New York City, specifies 56 actions across various fields including sustainable development, international peace and security, technology, digital cooperation, and youth, along with an urgent call to tackle global challenges such as climate change and the digital divide.
