Disgraced former sports doctor Larry Nassar, who was found guilty of sexually abusing female gymnasts, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.
According to two individuals familiar with the matter, the incident occurred on Sunday at United States Penitentiary Coleman, and Nassar was reported to be in stable condition on Monday.
The sources, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, revealed that Nassar had been stabbed in the back and chest. They were not authorized to discuss the details of the attack publicly.
Larry Nassar, known for his role as a physician for Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, was sentenced to several decades in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including Olympic medalists. His convictions stemmed from his abuse of athletes under the guise of medical treatment. Nassar also pleaded guilty to charges of possessing child pornography.
Nassar is currently serving his sentence in both state and federal prisons.
