China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has vehemently denounced the “indiscriminate attacks” targeting civilians in Lebanon, particularly following a wave of explosions that hit Hezbollah’s communication devices.
This stance was expressed during a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdullah Bou Habib, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, as announced by Beijing.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the bilateral meeting underscored China’s “close attention to the regional developments, especially the recent explosions targeting communication devices in Lebanon, and its strong opposition to the random attacks against civilians.”
Last week, a series of simultaneous explosions targeting call and wireless communication devices used by Hezbollah operatives resulted in 39 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries across various locations in Lebanon.
Additionally, on Monday, hundreds of Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon resulted in 492 fatalities, including 35 children, marking the most intense aerial bombardment the country has faced since the onset of cross-border shootings nearly a year ago related to the war in Gaza. The Chinese minister condemned these attacks.
Wang stated, “China strongly condemns any violations of the fundamental norms governing international relations.”
He reassured his Lebanese counterpart, “Regardless of how the situation changes, we will always stand with justice, alongside our Arab brothers, including Lebanon.”
He emphasized that “armed force does not represent truth and may only undermine peace.” Wang added, “Responding to violence with violence will not solve the problems in the Middle East and will only lead to a greater humanitarian disaster.”
The Asian country has urged its citizens to leave Israel amid escalating tensions between the state and Hezbollah and has repeatedly called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Gaza.
Israeli airstrikes resumed, Tuesday, on the Baalbek-Hermel region including Nabi Sheet, Taliya, and Shmistar in eastern Lebanon, as reported by Al Arabiya and Al Hadath correspondents.
Israel carried out a series of morning raids on the Lebanese Beqaa, affecting villages in the Baalbek district including Nabi Sheet, Dours, Sha’at, and Hermel, following a long, bloody night of displacement accompanied by the broadest Israeli air invasion since the 2006 war.
