The government of Burkina Faso has granted exceptional permission for the export of grains to Niger, which has faced sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) following a coup, as stated by the Burkinabe Ministry of Trade on Saturday.
In an official statement, the ministry highlighted that this decision, taken on Friday evening, is an act of “solidarity” with the people of Niger and pertains to the export of grains, especially millet, corn, white corn, and beans, to Niger.
The same source added that a special licensing process will be carried out exclusively for the export of grains to Niger.
It should be noted that since the coup that occurred on July 26th in Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, both situated in West Africa, have reiterated their solidarity with the military.
