The Austrian Foreign Ministry has issued an urgent call for its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, citing escalating risks in the region.

The advisory, announced on Monday, underscores the increasing dangers following recent geopolitical events.

The Austrian Foreign Ministry’s statement highlighted that the initial travel warning to Lebanon was issued in October 2023 and remains in effect.

This warning comes in the wake of significant escalations in violence and threats of retaliation after the assassination of senior Hezbollah commander Fouad Shakr in Beirut and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The ministry expressed concerns over the potential for a regional war, noting that the recent tensions have exacerbated the already volatile situation.

The travel warning was first issued following the military clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, which erupted after Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Given the current unstable environment and the likelihood of further conflict, the Austrian Foreign Ministry is strongly advising all Austrian nationals in Lebanon to leave the country as soon as possible for their safety.
