Algeria & US Discuss Bilateral Relations

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that a high-level Algerian delegation engaged in “deep talks” with a U.S. delegation during the sixth session of the Algerian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue in Washington.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that “this meeting, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Algeria and the United States, allowed both sides to assess their partnership and explore avenues for its deepening.”

The statement further indicated that a comprehensive Algerian delegation, led by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Louisa Mekharman, conducted in-depth discussions with representatives from various U.S. government agencies. These discussions covered political, security, economic, and cultural matters within specialized working groups.

Additionally, the Ministry’s statement mentioned that, on the sidelines of this session, Secretary-General Mekharman held talks with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Barbara Leaf.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the discussions primarily revolved around prospects for bilateral cooperation and regional issues of mutual interest
This session follows a working visit by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to Washington in August of the previous year.

The Algerian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, now in its sixth session, signifies the commitment of both countries to enhance their bilateral cooperation across various domains. These discussions provide an opportunity for Algeria and the United States to assess and strengthen their partnership while exploring avenues for deeper collaboration.

The comprehensive Algerian delegation, led by Secretary-General Louisa Mekharman, engaged in extensive discussions with representatives from multiple U.S. government agencies. These discussions covered a wide range of topics, including political, security, economic, and cultural matters. The establishment of specialized working groups reflects the commitment of both countries to address specific issues comprehensively.

On the sidelines of this session, Secretary-General Mekharman had the opportunity to hold talks with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf, further emphasizing the significance of these discussions.

The topics addressed during these dialogues ranged from bilateral cooperation to regional issues of mutual concern. This session follows a working visit by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to Washington in August of the previous year, highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and collaboration between Algeria and the United States.
