Algeria has expressed its support for Palestine’s request for technical assistance from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and for an investigation into incidents involving the use of chemical substances by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.

This was announced by Algeria’s representative to the OPCW, Ambassador Salima Abdou-Hak, during her participation in the 106th session of the OPCW Executive Council held in The Hague.

Ambassador Abdou-Hak emphasized the necessity of enhancing international cooperation to counter the threat of chemical terrorism, which is becoming increasingly alarming with the rapid advancements in science and technology, including artificial intelligence.

She highlighted the significant potential for AI to influence the development, deployment, and use of chemical weapons across various domains.

The session discussed numerous issues related to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and reviewed various developments within the OPCW since the conclusion of the previous council session, including matters about the chemical industry.

Since 7 October 2023, Gaza has endured a devastating toll from ongoing aggression by occupation forces, with the death toll now reaching 38,584 and 88,881 wounded, according to medical sources.

The situation escalated dramatically recently, with reports of four massacres perpetrated against Gaza families in the past 24 hours alone, resulting in the tragic loss of 141 lives and injuries to 400 others.

The conflict in Gaza has deep historical roots, marked by longstanding tensions and periodic escalations between Palestinian inhabitants and Israeli forces.
