Algeria has officially expressed its support for the “Friends of Peace” initiative aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
This announcement was made by Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, during a meeting convened by China and Brazil to launch the initiative.
At the meeting, Bendjama emphasized Algeria’s commitment to this comprehensive and constructive initiative, which seeks to bring a swift resolution to the conflict.
He stated that this approach aligns with the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter while also considering the legitimate security concerns of both parties involved.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who co-chaired the meeting alongside Brazilian President Lula da Silva’s special envoy, Celso Amorim, highlighted that the “Friends of Peace” initiative is not a closed group.
Instead, it serves as an open platform that aims for dialogue and comprehensive engagement rather than competition or confrontation.
The ministerial meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint statement by 13 participating countries, agreeing to continue consultations at various levels and with all parties involved.
Additionally, permanent representatives of the nations joining the “Friends of Peace” initiative were tasked with enhancing mutual understanding to support global efforts toward achieving lasting peace.
