Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants expressed its concerns over recent developments in the buffer zone between the two sectors of the island of Cyprus.

This came following an attack on the peacekeeping forces of the United Nations (UN) that took place last Friday.

A statement read: “The Ministry emphasizes the imperative of respecting the mission’s tasks, which are focused on maintaining security and stability on the island until a comprehensive and just resolution to the Cypriot issue is reached based on relevant Security Council decisions.”

In the same vein, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decisively rejected the assault on the UN peacekeeping forces in the buffer zone in Cyprus.

The attack was perpetrated by Cypriot forces against members of the international peacekeeping force who were trying to prevent the construction of a controversial road in the buffer zone between the two sectors of Cyprus last Friday, as announced by the UN mission on the island.
