The United States has granted approval for the deployment of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands.

This decision comes after the successful completion of training for the pilots, marking a strategic partnership in the face of rising regional tensions.

A senior US official confirmed on Thursday that Washington has provided official assurances to Denmark and the Netherlands, assuring them of expedited processes to approve the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine once pilots are adequately trained, according to “East – Bloomberg.”

Kyiv has been actively pursuing the acquisition of American-made F-16 fighter jets to enhance its aerial capabilities and counter Russia’s aerial dominance.

Recently, both Copenhagen and Amsterdam sought these assurances, while Washington’s approval is a prerequisite for the transfer of any military aircraft from its allies to Kyiv.

A multinational alliance of 11 countries was slated to commence training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jet usage in Denmark this month. Acting Danish Defense Minister Troels Poulsen stated in July that his country looks forward to seeing the “results” of this training by early 2024.

An American official disclosed that Secretary of State Antony Blinken dispatched letters to his Danish and Dutch counterparts, confirming that the US would grant the requested approvals. This move highlights the commitment of the United States to support its allies in the region.

On Wednesday, Kyiv affirmed that the utilization of F-16 fighter jets during the upcoming autumn and winter seasons would not be feasible.

This announcement follows President Joe Biden’s endorsement in May of a program to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. The training will take place not only in Denmark but also in a training center to be established in Romania.
