At least six people were killed and nine others injured after a traffic accident took place in Ain Oussera, Algeria.
The collision occurred on Friday between a taxi and a truck in the city of Ain Oussera, located in the Djelfa province of southern Algeria.
Authorities confirmed their intervention around 2 a.m. on Friday for a traffic mishap that took place on National Road No. 01, near a service station in Ain Oussera.
The sources provided further details on the casualties, noting that the age of the deceased ranged between 4 and 50 years, while the injured are aged between 5 and 49 years.
The National Gendarmerie departments across the region recorded 3,591 traffic accidents over the first five months of 2023. These incidents resulted in the unfortunate demise of 1,116 individuals and injuries to 5,326 others.
Major Samir Boushahit highlighted a worrying 45% increase in traffic incidents compared to the same period in 2022.
He said “Human carelessness is the main cause of these accidents, contributing to 93% of them. Other influencing factors include road conditions, environmental concerns, and vehicle-related issues.”
The rise in such accidents underscores the pressing need for improved road safety measures and awareness campaigns to curb this growing trend in Algeria.
