Algeria summoned the Danish ambassador and the acting head of the Swedish embassy in Algeria on Monday, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.

The summoning took place to communicate Algeria’s official protest against incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran. These instances occurred in Copenhagen, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden, triggering Algeria’s foreign ministry to call in the Danish ambassador and the Swedish embassy’s acting head in Algeria.

They were informed of Algeria’s official protest and strong condemnation of these unethical and disrespectful acts that offend the sanctities of Muslims around the world and provoke their feelings.

Furthermore, they were told that such horrific and reprehensible behaviors have no connection to freedom of expression. This is contrary to the false claims made by those who advocate, promote, and benefit from such actions.

In the same context, the Ministry emphasized that it is inappropriate to use this freedom as an excuse and a cover to protect the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

The Ministry also renewed Algeria’s demand to the authorities in both countries to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such actions, which are rejected by all divine laws, international norms, and laws.

The emphasis was made that these condemnable actions, which are contrary to the principles of tolerance and coexistence, have the potential to fuel hatred and feed racism against Muslims.
