The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) reported that 20,000 Palestinians have been forced to leave the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, seeking safety. Many of the displaced have taken refuge in UNRWA shelters, according to a statement from the agency’s media office in Gaza.
“People lost everything. They need everything, including food, water, blankets, and mattresses—the basic necessities,” UNRWA stated.
The agency highlighted the dire conditions in Gaza, noting a critical shortage of fuel and medical supplies in the remaining operational hospitals. The fuel shortages have also severely impacted access to clean water for the displaced population.
UNRWA confirmed that a limited number of trucks carrying flour entered Gaza City this week, but the supplies are far from adequate. The lack of resources means that only a few bakeries in Gaza City have been able to increase bread production to distribute to those seeking refuge in UNRWA shelters.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, UNRWA called for increased and continuous aid flow to address the needs of those affected by loss, displacement, and grief in Gaza. The organization stressed the importance of providing sustained relief to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis.
