Moroccan authorities announced on Tuesday the arrest of members of a terrorist cell affiliated with the “ISIS” organization, active in the cities of “Tiznit” and “Sidi Slimane”.
The Moroccan authorities stated in a statement that the operation resulted in the arrest of 4 extremists, with searches conducted at the suspects’ homes leading to the seizure of quasi-military equipment including a tactical vest, helmet, sniper scope, and mask, in addition to extremist-oriented manuscripts and a collection of electronic devices to be subjected to necessary digital expertise.
The statement explained that preliminary information indicates that members of this terrorist cell engaged in suspicious activities to provide financial resources and necessary logistical support in preparation for carrying out terrorist plots in Morocco aimed at disrupting public order.
It was further noted that the four terrorists have been detained pending the completion of investigations, and the operation is part of ongoing efforts to confront the risks of violent extremism and neutralize terrorist threats that pose a danger to Morocco’s security and the safety of its citizens.
