Lebanese Health Minister, Dr. Firas Al-Abiad, has expressed concerns about the spread of cholera in displacement centers across Lebanon. During a press statement, Al-Abiad highlighted the challenges in procuring cholera vaccines and assured that Lebanon is highly prepared should the number of infections rise.

He confirmed that the first detected case of cholera, originating from the Akkar region in northern Lebanon, has been isolated and is receiving the necessary treatment. Al-Abiad reassured the public that there is a sufficient stockpile of medications for chronic diseases lasting about five months, including ample supplies for cancer treatments, emphasizing that there is no need for panic.

Furthermore, Al-Abiad noted that Lebanon has received a grant aimed at improving the country’s health security. He also accused Israel of violating international law and the Geneva Conventions by systematically and directly targeting medical teams.
