The UK has advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Israel due to rising tensions and violence in the region.

The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office also discourages travel to certain areas, including northern and southern Israel, most of the West Bank, and Gaza.

On Monday, air raid sirens in Tel Aviv were triggered by rockets fired from Gaza, as Hamas marked the anniversary of its large-scale attack last year.

UK Foreign Minister David Lammy described reports of Israeli strikes in Lebanon as “deeply disturbing” in a post on X.

“Reports that Israeli strikes have hit health facilities and support personnel in Lebanon are deeply disturbing,” Lammy said.

He added: “All parties must comply with international humanitarian law. Our priority is an immediate ceasefire on both sides so Israeli and Lebanese civilians can return home.”

A report from Brown University’s Costs of War project reveals that since the Gaza conflict began, the US has provided Israel with at least $17.9 billion in military aid, contributing to the growing conflict across the Middle East.

Researchers also noted an additional $4.86 billion spent on expanded US military operations in the past year, including efforts by the US Navy to address attacks on commercial vessels by Yemen’s Houthis.

The financial data was compiled by a team led by Linda J. Bilmes, a professor at Harvard, who has analyzed the total costs of US wars since the September 11 attacks.
