The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that the number of cholera cases in the country has surpassed 19,000, with fatalities reaching 566.

According to the Emergency Operations Center at the Ministry, 190 new cholera cases and two deaths were recorded in three states: Kassala, Nile River, and Al Qadarif.

The total tally of infections now stands at 19,411, spread across 64 localities in 11 Sudanese states.

The Nile River state alone has witnessed a significant rise in cholera cases, now totaling 4,561, including 101 deaths. Just today, 37 new cases were identified, increasing the cumulative number to 4,561, with 101 fatalities.

Currently, 69 patients are receiving treatment in isolation centers, while 4,391 individuals have recovered.

Additionally, the Health Ministry’s Emergency Operations Center reported 773 cases of dengue fever across the country, with three resulting deaths.

Most recently, 80 new cases of dengue were registered on Wednesday in Khartoum and Kassala states, with 43 cases in the Karari locality of Omdurman and 37 in Kassala.

The Ministry affirmed its ongoing efforts to combat the cholera outbreak, which include treating patients in isolation centers and continuing federal-level interventions along with daily monitoring of treatment centers in the affected states.

The cholera epidemic in Sudan, which began on August 12 following devastating floods and heavy rainfall, has exacerbated the public health challenges facing the nation.
