On Thursday, the Arab League convened an extraordinary session, chaired by Yemen, to discuss solidarity with Lebanon and the provision of urgent aid to address the Israeli aggression.
The meeting of permanent delegates emphasized unwavering support for Lebanon’s government and people, stated Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Secretary-General’s Office at the Arab League.
Zaki highlighted the unity against the targeting of the Lebanese state and its resources, pointing out the transparent motives behind the occupation and urging vigilance and support to help Lebanon thwart these attempts.
“Civil peace is a top priority, and Lebanon’s society can only navigate through this crisis by strengthening its fabric and collaborative spirit,” Zaki added.
The spokesperson remarked on Lebanon’s prolonged suffering due to consecutive crises and the severe new challenges posed by the current military escalation, with over a million displaced facing horrific humanitarian consequences.
“It is imperative for the international community to extend their support to Lebanon and its resilient people to emerge stronger from this ordeal,” he noted.
The session was initially called by Iraq to address the military escalation by Israel on Lebanon and its humanitarian fallout, focusing on assisting displaced persons and refugees, delivering urgent medical and food supplies, and urging the international community to stand with Lebanon and collaborate with international organizations for rapid aid delivery.
