A Russian aircraft loaded with tons of humanitarian aid landed in Lebanon on Thursday, as part of an initiative directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Russia’s Sputnik news agency, the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ plane arrived at Beirut International Airport carrying essential supplies.
The shipment includes 33 tons of humanitarian goods, consisting of food, medical supplies, and mobile power stations, facilitated via a special flight.
The Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, along with Lebanon’s Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, were present to receive the aid.
This assistance arrives amidst ongoing regional tensions and underscores Russia’s commitment to providing crucial support to Lebanon during its time of need.
The European Commission has declared an additional €30 million in humanitarian aid will be dispatched to Lebanon amid the intensifying conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
This increase follows a previous €10 million allocated at September’s end, raising the total aid for the year to over €104 million.
The funding is intended to enhance support for food, shelter, healthcare, and other critical services in Lebanon.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized, “Our new funding will ensure civilians receive much-needed assistance during this very difficult time. We continue to advocate for a ceasefire across the border with Lebanon and in Gaza, as well as for the release of all hostages.”
On Thursday, the Arab League convened an extraordinary session, chaired by Yemen, to discuss solidarity with Lebanon and the provision of urgent aid to address the Israeli aggression.
The meeting of permanent delegates emphasized unwavering support for Lebanon’s government and people, stated Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Secretary-General’s Office at the Arab League.
Zaki highlighted the unity against the targeting of the Lebanese state and its resources, pointing out the transparent motives behind the occupation and urging vigilance and support to help Lebanon thwart these attempts.
