Early Tuesday, a US diplomatic facility in Baghdad, known as the Diplomatic Support Center, was attacked, though no injuries were reported, according to US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Romanowski confirmed, “Last night there was an attack on the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Compound, a US diplomatic facility. Thankfully, no casualties.”

She emphasized the importance of halting such attacks and expressed gratitude for the swift response from the Iraqi government.

Romanowski also reiterated the need for ongoing cooperation to protect diplomatic personnel and facilities, as well as coalition partners involved in the US-led international coalition established in 2014 to combat ISIS.

The US maintains about 2,500 troops in Iraq and around 900 in neighboring Syria as part of this coalition, which also includes forces from countries such as France and the United Kingdom.

The Diplomatic Support Center plays a crucial role in providing logistical assistance to the US diplomatic mission and also houses medical facilities.

The site has been a target of previous attacks, most notably on January 3, 2022, which coincided with the second anniversary of the US airstrike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in Baghdad.
