The Bulgarian security services have firmly denied any involvement in the manufacturing, import, or export of pager devices that were reportedly used in a recent attack in Lebanon.
On Friday, Bulgarian authorities stated that the Ministry of Interior and security agencies have launched an investigation into the potential involvement of a company suspected of selling these pagers to the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which played a role in the coordinated attack.
According to media reports, a company named Norta Global Ltd has been implicated in supplying pagers to Hezbollah, with BAC Consulting, a Hungary-based firm, allegedly acting as a middleman.
However, Hungarian news outlet Telex reported earlier this week that BAC Consulting had only a minor role in the transaction and had no significant operational presence, lacking an office or active business activities.
The Bulgarian security agency clarified that it is actively collaborating with the Ministry of Interior to investigate the involvement of an unidentified company registered in Bulgaria in the attack that shook Lebanon earlier this week.
Authorities are looking into whether this company could have facilitated the sale of the pagers, which have been linked to Hezbollah’s operations.
This investigation is part of broader efforts by Bulgaria and other nations to prevent the illegal export of technology that could be used in conflicts, especially involving groups like Hezbollah, which has been involved in escalating tensions across the region.
