Farhat Ben Qadara, Chairman of the Libyan National Oil Corporation, held a series of meetings in Washington, D.C., with top U.S. administration officials. The Libyan National Oil Corporation’s media office stated that Ben Qadara’s meetings included discussions at the White House with Amos Hochstein, the U.S. President’s special advisor, and at the State Department with Joshua Harris, Assistant Secretary of State.
Ben Qadara also met at the U.S. Agency for International Development with the acting Deputy Director for the Middle East, Sybil Siegle. Additional meetings were held at the Treasury Department with Anthony Marcus, official of international affairs, and at the Energy Department with Jeffrey Biatt, Brad Crabtree, and Josh Fultz. Finally, he met with Thomas Prinz, Assistant Secretary of Commerce.
During these meetings, U.S. officials affirmed their full support for the National Oil Corporation in its efforts to maintain its independence and neutrality, especially given the challenges and pressures it faces. They emphasized the necessity of protecting the institution from interferences that could hinder its performance, highlighting its vital role in securing Libya’s state revenue and stabilizing global energy supplies, particularly in the context of production cuts and the Libyan Central Bank crisis.
The officials also expressed their readiness to provide all forms of technical and technological support to enhance cooperation with the institution in governance and transparency areas, as well as in improving the efficiency of workers in the Libyan oil sector.
It was agreed to continue coordination between the parties, including organizing future meetings and visits to bolster economic cooperation and support the entry of American companies into the Libyan oil sector
