Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelaty, emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, alongside full access for humanitarian aid.

He stressed the importance of positively engaging with the ongoing mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, urging all parties to participate seriously and with genuine political will in ceasefire negotiations.

Abdelaty highlighted that these negotiations are the only viable path to de-escalating tensions and preventing the conflict from spreading further in the region.

This statement came during a phone conversation between Egypt’s Foreign Minister and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday.

The two diplomats discussed the latest developments in the region and coordinated their efforts to address the ongoing crisis.

According to Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused on the efforts being made to contain the current escalation in Gaza and to secure a ceasefire. Both sides reviewed the outcomes of their recent communications and initiatives aimed at achieving this goal.

The conversation also touched on the ongoing crisis in Sudan, particularly in light of the Geneva meetings. Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for efforts to secure a ceasefire in Sudan, emphasizing the need to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and safeguard their lives and property.

Secretary Blinken reiterated the US’s appreciation for Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability in the region.

The two ministers also discussed several bilateral issues, reaffirming the importance of the strategic relationship between Egypt and the United States and agreeing to maintain close consultation and coordination in the coming period.
