Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the US Congress as being “the worst representation” by a foreign public figure.

Netanyahu, who is visiting Washington DC, spoke to Congress on Wednesday, focusing primarily on the Hamas attacks on October 7 and the subsequent Israeli actions in Gaza. Pelosi, along with other lawmakers, chose to boycott the speech.

Pelosi expressed her disapproval on the social media platform X, stating, “Benjamin Netanyahu’s presentation in the House Chamber today was by far the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honoured with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the US.”

The US Former House Speaker added that many supporters of Israel listened instead to Israeli families affected by the Hamas terror attacks and kidnappings on October 7, who are advocating for a ceasefire to bring hostages home.

While Netanyahu received a warm reception from Republicans with a standing ovation and cheers, Democrats were notably more restrained.

During his speech, Netanyahu assured that the hostages taken by Hamas would soon be freed and defended Israel’s actions in Gaza, attributing reports of hunger there to Hamas and affirming Israel’s commitment to protecting civilians.

Netanyahu also mentioned his upcoming meeting with US President Joe Biden, noting ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
