The Medical Syndicate in Egypt announced the suspension of granting professional licenses to Syrian doctors who have sought refuge in Egypt. Osama Abdel Hai, the head of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, stated in remarks published by the media that the registration of any Sudanese doctor seeking refuge in Egypt after the Sudanese war has been halted.
He noted that the Sudanese war has impacted the licensing of Syrian and Yemeni doctors, leading to the suspension of granting these licenses.
As of 2024, Egypt is hosting a significant number of refugees from various countries, including Syria. The number of registered Syrian refugees in Egypt is reported to be 156,445. This figure places Syrians as one of the largest groups of refugees in the country, following the Sudanese who are the largest group.
Globally, the Syrian refugee crisis remains one of the most significant, with millions displaced across the Middle East and beyond due to the ongoing conflict in Syria. As of mid-2024, around 6.8 million Syrians remain displaced in neighboring countries.
