An Iraqi border forces colonel was killed on Sunday evening while performing his duty, according to reports.

The officer, identified as Colonel Ali Hamid Abdul-Dibbi, served as the Deputy Commander of the 10th Border Brigade in the third region.

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported that Colonel Abdul-Dibbi was assassinated by what were described as criminal gangs.

The Iraqi Border Forces Command expressed their condolences and confirmed his death in a statement, highlighting his commitment to protecting Iraq’s borders from infiltration and smuggling.

The statement emphasized that the martyr, Colonel Abdul-Dibbi, played a crucial role alongside his colleagues in preventing smuggling and drug trafficking within their jurisdiction.

In related news, Iran and Iraq agreed to reopen border markets in the cities of Baneh and Saqqez in Iran’s Kurdistan province on Sunday.

According to Alsumaria News, Mohsen Biglari, the representative of Saqqez in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, met with Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, Commander of the Iranian Border Guard, to discuss the status of the border markets in the provinces of Siranband, Hengejal, Galesur, Baneh, and Saif Saqqez. The Border Guard Commander approved the reopening of these markets.

Biglari noted that the reopening of these border markets is a significant demand from the local residents, and it is fortunate that the Border Guard Command has agreed to fully reopen the Kurdistan borders.

Additionally, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of continued high-level coordination between Iraq and Iran across all fields during a statement on Saturday.
