Israeli drones targeted two military sites in the Quneitra and Daraa regions of Syria, resulting in the death of a Syrian officer. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the incident, citing a military source.

According to the source, “At approximately 7:00 a.m. today, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on two of our military sites in the Quneitra and Daraa countryside. The aggression led to the martyrdom of an officer and caused some material damage.”

The attack marks another chapter in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Syria.

Israel has frequently targeted Syrian military positions, aiming to prevent Iran’s military entrenchment in the region and to disrupt arms transfers to Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group allied with Iran and active in Syria.

Quneitra and Daraa, both situated near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, have been flashpoints in the Syrian conflict.

The regions have witnessed numerous skirmishes and airstrikes, contributing to the broader instability in the area.

Israel and Syria have technically been in a state of war since the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.

Despite several attempts at peace negotiations, the relationship remains tense, particularly over the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed in 1981, a move not recognized internationally.

The Syrian civil war, which began in 2011, has added another layer of complexity to the Israeli-Syrian conflict. Israel’s primary concern has been the presence of Iranian forces and proxy groups, including Hezbollah, close to its borders.

As a result, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria, targeting Iranian positions and arms depots.

This latest incident underscores the volatile situation in the region, with Israel’s strategic strikes aiming to counter perceived threats from Iranian and Hezbollah forces.

As the conflict continues, the likelihood of further escalations remains high, keeping the region on edge.
